How products are selected, where the numbers come from, and what we deliberately do not claim.

What our recommendations are based on
Every product we recommend is assessed from sources that can be checked: manufacturer specification sheets, installation and owner manuals, warranty terms, published certifications, and the pattern of feedback from people who own the product.
Where a specification cannot be confirmed from a manufacturer document, we write not specified by the manufacturer rather than estimating it. Where a figure is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified measurement, we say so.
What we do not claim
- We do not claim to have tested products we have not tested. If a guide describes hands-on use, that use genuinely happened and the method is described. Otherwise the guide says it is based on documentation.
- We do not publish scores, ratings or awards. A numeric score implies a measurement. Where we have not measured anything, a score would be decoration pretending to be data. Picks are labelled by who they suit instead.
- We do not print prices. RV equipment pricing changes frequently and a stale price is worse than none. We use price bands, and you see the current price at the retailer.
- We do not invent authors or credentials.
How products are shortlisted
A product has to be currently available in the United States, have manufacturer documentation we can reference, and suit a use case a reader plausibly has. Beyond that, selection weighs:
- Fitment and compatibility — the most common cause of a returned purchase
- Published protection, capacity or load ratings appropriate to the job
- Build and materials as documented by the manufacturer
- Warranty length and what it actually covers
- Recurring themes in owner feedback, treated as signal rather than proof
Weaknesses
Every product write-up includes its limitations. A guide in which nothing has a downside is not a guide — it is a catalogue. If we cannot identify a genuine trade-off for a product, that is a sign we do not understand it well enough to recommend it yet.
Keeping guides current
Product specifications are re-checked against manufacturer sources on a schedule, and the verification date is shown on the page. Discontinued and superseded products are replaced rather than left in place — a guide recommending something you cannot buy wastes your time and ours.
How we make money
RVTrove earns a commission when you buy through some of the links on this site, at no extra cost to you. That arrangement only works long term if the advice is accurate, which is why the constraints above are published rather than assumed. See our affiliate disclosure.
Retailers do not pay for placement, and no manufacturer has any input into what we recommend or what we say about it.
